Chateau Bonnet Description

Tasting notes

Deep ruby-red color scattered with purple highlights. The nose is very attractive and fruity, revealing a delicious array of fresh fruit notes (cherry, plum, blackberry), underpinned by subtle hints of spice. Very round, delicious and balanced. Ideally paired with grilled red meats and cheese platters.

Description

CHÂTEAU BONNET is the family home where the story of the André Lurton family started. It is one of the leading brand of the Entre-Deux-Mers and one of the most beautiful regions of the Bordeaux countryside. This area features limestone plateaus which are ideal for growing balanced and concentrated grapes. All wines feature Eco-designed packaging, lightweight bottles & eco-paper. The estate promotes biodiversity with the creation of an eco-garden, installation of beehives, new crops (vegetables, etc.) and are committed sustainable farming. They have received a HEV 3 global environmental certification, which is the highest level possible.

History

ANDRÉ LURTON is the company’s founder, for almost 70 years he dedicated his life to his vines, as only a man born in a wine chateau could do. Jacques Lurton now runs the family estates; he was nominated president of the group by his family in June 2019. His vast winemaking experience around the world over 30 years, has given him inspired and creative vision which he now transmits to the Vignobles Andre Lurton.

Decanter: 91 Points

Bold, deep and concentrated on the nose. Ripe, fresh and so succulent with mouthwatering acidity and fleshy texture. Still so youthful, I love the upfront nature of the elements - it's characterful and has real personality with the bright strawberry and blackcurrant fruit underpinned by high acidity and offset by plush tannins. After a few seconds the primary fruit subsides leaving a host of menthol and wood spiced elements that provide the backbone - still quite apparent at the moment but they give a sense of the structure and provide nuance and layers of flavour. A mighty wine that could be kept a few more years before opening. Grapes come from clay-limestone hilltop vineyards of Grézillac in the Entre-deux-Mers. From the Andre Lurton stable, now overseen by Jacques Lurton, also of Chateau Couhins Lurton, La Louvière, Rochemorin, Cruzeau and Barbe Blanche. A 60/40 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 12 months in 20% new oak barrels.
